This 1920’s Georgian Revival house in Brookline Massachusetts was substantially expanded in 1984, and a detached carriage house/garage was added. The functional brief was to expand, reorganize and link the renovated house and garage with new construction, and in particular to take account of the significant topography of the mature hillside garden. The new interior passage from the main house to the garage allows uninterrupted interior passage through conditioned space while also affording a unique living space that provides a pleasing integration with the outdoor surroundings and a refuge from the activities within the main house. It also serves to bring the guest suite above the garage within the envelope of the home.
